are invited to visit Northstar Nurseries. We have a beautiful
piece of property, thanks to the former owners, Jim and Lois Seeden.
It is fifteen acres of rolling, lightly wooded land nestled between
the amps of Cowley Lake and all it's birdlife and wildlife. Many
horticultural cultivars of trees, flowering shrubs and perennials
have naturalized themselves into the landscape. Lilacs, irises,
daylilies, and peonies have self seeded themselves over the entire
property giving it a wild Arboretum-like atmosphere. We follow
Ken Druse' style of natural gardening. Many areas are left untouched
except for a mown walking paths between the various display beds.
This plan takes advantage of the beauty in the natural patterns
of the native flora and fauna and encourages it to live here.
Butterflies and birds and other wildlife abound on the property.
We have eagles, trumpeter swans, great blue herons, loons, otters,
coyotes, mink, deer, jack rabbits and many other animals. Our
display beds are nestled into special spots and places and many
have antique horse drawn fans implements as center pieces. New
beds have been constructed. They are all connected together by
winding grassy paths and interplanted with other perennials and
native plants. Seedlings, miniatures, spiders, breeding plants
and landscape plants all have their own places. Breeding plants
and seedlings surround three ponds. Feel free to visit and stroll
our gardens. Peak bloom is in middle July although we typically
have bloom from the first week in June through September and even
into October. Our record early bloom is May 18th and record late
bloom is October 19th.
